• Who can submit a film? The film’s director(s) must be in high school or middle school. Actors in the film can be of any age.
  • What kinds of films? Short films that run anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Narrative (comedy, drama, sci-fi, horror, etc), documentary, animated, experimental, PSAs (public service announcements) about the importance of the inclusion of people with disabilities – all are welcome.
  • What type of camera should you use? Films can be made on any type of camera, as well as on phone cameras.
  • Is there a cost to submit a film? There is no cost to submit a film or attend the event.
  • When is the deadline for submissions? The deadline for submission is December 31, 2022, at 11:59 pm.
  • Are there any films that would be unacceptable? Films selected must be appropriate for middle school age (10 years old) and above. Films must also meet a standard technical viewing and sound quality.
  • Should a credit scene be added? Films should include a title screen, as well as credits at the end with the names and roles of all involved. If you are new to filmmaking and don’t know how to edit this in, our EPIC Ambassadors can help you with this. When you submit your film, send
  • How are films selected to be shown at the festival? If more films are submitted than we have time to show at the event, then the members of the EPIC Committee will choose the best films to be selected for showing. All Official Selections will be announced on Saturday, January 7, 2023. They will be posted to this website and an email will be sent out to everyone who submitted a film.
  • Can you submit more than one film? You may submit more than one film but time constraints may limit us to only choosing one of your films, so please make sure to state which film would be your priority.
  • Authorization form: You must have anyone who appears in your film sign a Video Consent and Release Form saying they have agreed to appear in your film. If the actor is under 18 or is 18 or older and has a guardian, their parent/guardian must also sign the authorization form. It is your sole responsibility to make sure you have received written authorization for any person(s) to appear in your film. You should keep these signed forms in a safe place. If we need to review these forms, we will request them from you.
  • Promotional video: Clips from submitted films may be used in a promotional video to advertise the festival to get people to come to the event.
  • NOTE: As the New Castle EPIC Committee’s mission is to promote the inclusion of people of all abilities, special recognition will be given to any films that include individuals with disabilities in their cast or crew. There will be an area to note that on your submission form.
  • COPYRIGHT ISSUES: An Entry must be the original work of the Entrant, and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity, or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity. If an Entry contains any material or elements that are not owned by the Entrant, and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, the Entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submitting such  Entry, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the Entry by the Festival in the manner set forth in these Terms, including, without limitation, name and likeness permissions from any person who appears in or is identifiable in the Entry, music licenses and location releases. The Festival reserves the right to request proof of these permissions in a form acceptable to the Festival from any entrant at any time. Failure to provide such proof may, if requested, render Entry null and void. By submitting an Entry, the Entrant warrants and represents that he/she and any persons appearing or who are identifiable in the Entry consent to the submission and use of the Entry in the Contest and to its use as otherwise set forth herein.
